Global warming potential

Term · Semiconductors · MLC-T-SEM-000150

A measure of how much energy the emissions of one ton of a given gas will absorb over a specified period, relative to the emissions of one ton of carbon dioxide. This metric allows for the comparison of the climate impact of different greenhouse gases. For example, sulfur hexafluoride (SF6), used in semiconductor manufacturing, has a GWP thousands of times higher than CO2 over a 100-year period.
