Accident (Recreational Boating)

An occurrence involving a vessel or its equipment that results in 1) A death; 2) An injury that requires medical treatment beyond first aid; 3) Damage to a vessel and other property, totaling to more than $500 or complete loss of a vessel; or 4) The disappearance of the vessel under circumstances that indicate death or injury. Federal regulations (33 CFR 173-4) require the operator of any vessel that is numbered or used for recreational purposes to submit an accident report.
