Endstop

Term · Additive manufacturing and 3D printing · MLC-T-ADM-000123

A sensor that detects when a moving component of a 3D printer, such as the print head or build plate, has reached the physical limit of its travel along an axis. This signal informs the printer's controller that the component has reached its home or zero position, which is the reference point for all subsequent movements. Endstops are most commonly mechanical switches but can also be optical or magnetic sensors.
