Near net shape
Term · Additive manufacturing and 3D printing · MLC-T-ADM-000248
An object produced by a manufacturing process that is very close to its final, or net, dimensions and geometry. This state minimizes the need for subsequent material removal operations like machining, grinding, or polishing to achieve the required surface finish and dimensional accuracy. Additive manufacturing processes inherently produce near net shape components, contrasting with traditional subtractive methods that begin with a much larger block of raw material.
