Athymia

The congenital absence of the thymus gland, either partially or completely. This condition results in a failure to produce mature T-lymphocytes, leading to a severely compromised adaptive immune system and profound immunodeficiency. Athymia is a primary feature of complete DiGeorge syndrome, a genetic disorder caused by a microdeletion on chromosome 22.
