Maximum permissible level

The highest concentration of a substance allowed in a specific medium, such as air, water, or food, without posing an unacceptable risk to human health or the environment. This regulatory standard is established based on toxicological data and risk assessments. It is synonymous with maximum allowable concentration in many contexts.
