Phantom pain

The sensation of pain or other feelings, such as itching or pressure, that appear to originate from a body part that has been amputated or removed. This phenomenon is thought to be caused by complex changes in the nervous system, including nerve damage and reorganization of the brain's sensory maps. It can range from mild to severe and may be chronic.
