Weakest-link incongruity

The questionable assumption, extending the idea of testing the most sensitive life stage, that protecting that stage protects every life stage, and that a concentration causing substantial mortality at that stage will seriously harm the field population. Whether it holds depends on how the population responds to losses at that stage, so it is treated as an assumption to be tested and not as a rule.
