Ptolemaic incongruity
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009655
A fallacy in ecotoxicology of treating one level of biological organisation, whether the molecule, organism, population or ecosystem, as more central than the rest. The name alludes to the Ptolemaic Earth-centred universe, in which a single body was placed at the middle of everything. The corrective view is that effects at every level, from biochemical to community, carry information that the others cannot supply.
