Individual
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005785
A single, discrete organism, distinct from others of the same species, that functions as a unit of life. In ecotoxicology, the individual is the primary level at which the direct effects of a toxicant are observed, such as mortality, reduced growth, or impaired reproduction. While effects are measured on individuals, the data are often extrapolated to assess risks to populations and communities.
