Principle of allocation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009475
A concept in ecotoxicology stating that an organism has a finite amount of energy and resources to allocate among competing life functions, such as growth, reproduction, and maintenance. When an organism is exposed to a stressor, such as a toxic chemical, energy must be diverted to detoxification or repair, potentially reducing resources available for other functions. This can lead to reduced fitness or survival in contaminated environments.
