The currently selected cell in a spreadsheet program, such as Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets, into which data can be entered. It is identified by a bold border or a distinct colored outline. The name or address of the active cell, like A1 or C5, appears in the spreadsheet's name box or formula bar.
