Cache
Term · Computing and IT · MLC-T-CMP-000153
A smaller, faster memory component that stores copies of data from frequently used main memory locations to reduce the average time to access data. When the processor needs to read from or write to a location in main memory, it first checks whether a copy of that data is in the cache. Modern CPUs have a hierarchy of cache levels, designated L1, L2, and L3, with L1 being the smallest and fastest.
