A file system introduced by Microsoft, standing for Extended File Allocation Table, designed for flash memory such as SD cards and USB flash drives. It overcomes the file size and partition size limitations of the older FAT32 system, supporting individual files larger than 4 gigabytes. Because of its lightweight structure and broad compatibility across Windows, macOS, and Linux, it is the default file system for SDXC cards.
