A file system architecture that uses a 32-bit File Allocation Table, introduced with Windows 95 OSR2. It became a standard for organizing files on hard drives and removable media due to its compatibility with many operating systems. FAT32 has a maximum individual file size of 4 gigabytes and supports partition sizes up to 2 terabytes, though performance degrades on larger volumes.
