JFS
Term · Computing and IT · MLC-T-CMP-001481
A 64-bit journaling file system, the Journaled File System, created by IBM for its AIX operating system and later ported to others like Linux. It maintains a log of metadata changes that have not yet been committed to the main part of the file system, which speeds up recovery after a system crash. JFS2, the second generation, supports features such as extent-based allocation and dynamic inode allocation, contrasting with the fixed inode allocation of file systems like ext2.
