A high-speed serial bus interface standard, also known as IEEE 1394, developed by Apple for connecting peripheral devices to a computer. It supports hot-swapping and peer-to-peer communication between devices without requiring a host computer. FireWire was commonly used for digital video cameras, external hard drives, and audio interfaces, offering speeds up to 800 megabits per second.
