Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure, an extension of HTTP that encrypts communication between a web browser and a website. It uses Transport Layer Security (TLS), or its predecessor Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), to provide encrypted and authenticated communication. Websites using HTTPS display a padlock icon in the browser's address bar.
