Input/Output Operations Per Second, a performance metric used to quantify the number of read and write operations a storage device or system can handle in one second. It measures the rate at which data blocks are accessed, rather than the amount of data transferred. This metric is particularly relevant for workloads involving many small, random data accesses, such as database transactions.
