ACID

A set of properties of database transactions intended to guarantee data validity despite errors, power failures, and other mishaps. The acronym stands for Atomicity, Consistency, Isolation, and Durability. In an ACID-compliant system, a transaction is processed in its entirety or not at all (atomicity), brings the database from one valid state to another (consistency), is not affected by other concurrent transactions (isolation), and remains committed once completed (durability).
