Parity

Term · Computing and IT · MLC-T-CMP-000878

The property of an integer being either even or odd. In data transmission and storage, it is used as a simple form of error checking by determining if the number of set bits (bits with a value of 1) in a group of bits is even or odd. This property forms the basis for the parity bit method, which can detect single-bit errors in a byte or word.
