Term · Computing and IT · MLC-T-CMP-001362
Wired Equivalent Privacy, a security algorithm for IEEE 802.11 wireless networks. It was an early attempt to provide data confidentiality comparable to that of a traditional wired network. WEP uses a shared secret key for encryption, but its security vulnerabilities led to its deprecation in favor of stronger protocols like WPA2.
