An instruction set architecture that extends the x86 architecture to support 64-bit computing. It allows processors to access significantly more memory than 32-bit systems and provides additional registers for improved performance. This architecture is backward compatible with 32-bit x86 software and is the dominant architecture for personal computers and servers.
