Endianness
Term · Computing and IT · MLC-T-CMP-000388
The order in which a sequence of bytes is stored in computer memory to represent a multi-byte data type. In a big-endian system, the most significant byte is stored at the smallest memory address, while in a little-endian system, the least significant byte is stored first. The x86 architecture uses little-endian ordering, whereas network protocols like TCP/IP use big-endian, known as network byte order.
