Absorption Barrier

1. Any of the exchange sites of the body that permit uptake of various substances at different rates (e.g. skin, lung tissue, and gastrointestinal-tract wall).
2. Any exposure surface that may retard the rate of penetration of an agent into a target. Examples include the skin, respiratory tract lining, and gastrointestinal tract wall.
