Biologically Significant Effect
Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-003278
1. A response in an organism or other biological system that is considered to have a substantial or noteworthy effect (positive or negative) on the well- being of the biological system. Used to distinguish statistically significant effects or changes, which may or may not be meaningful to the general state of health of the system.
2. Biological result of exposure to a causal agent. This term is similar to response, but emphasizes the agent that acts (e.g., the effect of cadmium) rather than receptor that responds to it (e.g., the response of trout).
