AAL
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000032
A protocol layer within the Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) standard that links higher-level services to the ATM layer. The ATM Adaptation Layer (AAL) segments data from upper-layer protocols into 48-byte payloads for ATM cells and reassembles them at the destination. Different AAL types exist, such as AAL1 for constant bit rate services like voice and AAL5 for variable bit rate data traffic.
