Ader receiver

An early telephone receiver designed by the French engineer Clément Ader, built around a single permanent magnet bent into a ring that also served as the handle. A small soft-iron ring at the end of the magnet acted as the pole piece. Ader also developed telephone transmitters and the 1881 stereo relay of Paris opera performances that was later marketed as the Théâtrophone.
