Air line

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000132

A system of pneumatic pipes and hoses on a train that transmits compressed air for operating the brakes and other auxiliary equipment. This line runs the length of the train, connecting the locomotive's air compressor to brake cylinders on each car. A drop in air pressure within this line signals the braking system to apply, providing a fail-safe mechanism.
