Autocide

Control of an insect pest by releasing individuals of that same species that have been made sterile or carry a lethal trait, so that matings produce few or no offspring. The sterile insect technique, which uses irradiated males, is the classic example, and it has been used against the screwworm fly and several fruit flies. Its best-known success was the eradication of the screwworm fly from the United States.
