Autocoach
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000328
A railway coach with a driving cab at one end, used in push-pull working so the driver can control a locomotive at the other end by remote linkage. When the locomotive pushes, the driver rides in the cab, so the engine does not have to run round the train at a terminus. Autocoaches were paired with small tank locomotives on branch lines, notably on the Great Western Railway.
