Twinset

A configuration of two identical or closely matched locomotives permanently coupled together and operated as a single unit, sharing controls and power. This arrangement provides increased tractive effort and horsepower for heavy freight trains or high-speed passenger services. Twinsets are often used on routes with steep grades or for trains exceeding the capacity of a single locomotive.
