Barrister's block

A woven fabric pattern characterized by alternating blocks of color, creating a checkerboard or block check effect. The design is constructed using a plain or twill weave, with groups of warp and weft threads in contrasting colors, traditionally black and white or other somber tones. This pattern is named for its historical association with the formal fabrics used in legal and academic gowns, particularly in the United Kingdom.
