Bee

A wooden or metal reinforcement plate or block fitted to a spar, such as a bowsprit or yardarm, to strengthen it or provide an attachment point. Bees are often found on the sides of a bowsprit where stays or other rigging lines pass through or are secured. They protect the spar from chafe and distribute stress from the rigging.
