Bleed

An extension of a printed image or color beyond the trim edge of a page, intended to be cut off during the finishing process. This design element prevents an unprinted white margin from appearing if there are slight inaccuracies in trimming. A standard bleed allowance is typically 0.125 inches (3.175 mm) beyond the final trim size.
