Blipper
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000612
A system that briefly opens the throttle during a downshift so engine speed rises to match the lower gear, replacing the driver's manual throttle blip. Matching revs this way lets the gear engage smoothly and avoids a jolt or rear-wheel hop when the clutch is released or a sequential gearbox is shifted. Its counterpart on upshifts is the quickshifter, which cuts ignition or fuel instead.
