Downshift

To select a lower gear in a vehicle's transmission, which increases engine revolutions per minute (RPM) and provides more torque to the wheels. This action is performed to accelerate more quickly, to gain engine braking when decelerating, or to maintain power on an uphill incline. Modern automatic transmissions perform downshifts electronically.
