An abbreviation for Blind Spot Monitor, an advanced driver-assistance system that detects vehicles located in the driver's blind spots to the sides and rear of the car. The system uses sensors, such as radar or cameras, mounted on the side mirrors or rear bumper to monitor adjacent lanes. When a vehicle is detected in a blind spot, BSM provides a visual, audible, or haptic warning to the driver, such as an illuminated icon in the side mirror.
