Buckle

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000817

A localized, wave-like deformation or bulge in a structural member caused by compressive stress exceeding the material's elastic limit. This failure mode appears as a bend, fold, or wrinkle, and it compromises the component's structural integrity without fracturing the material itself. Thin-walled columns, plates, and beams are particularly susceptible to buckling under axial or bending loads.
