To install a protective lining, typically made of steel pipe, into a drilled borehole to prevent the collapse of the hole walls and isolate different geological formations. This lining, known as casing, is cemented in place to provide structural integrity and prevent fluid migration. Casing strings are designed to withstand downhole pressures and temperatures.
