Ginging

The process of lining a mine shaft or tunnel with brickwork, concrete, or other durable materials to provide structural support and prevent collapse. This technique reinforces the excavation against ground pressure and water ingress, creating a stable passage. Ginged shafts are common in areas with unstable rock formations or high water tables.
