Cradle

A timber ribbing shaped to the curve of a vaulted ceiling or arch to carry the lath for plaster. More generally, the word names any framework of timber or iron bars that supports, lifts or carries a heavy object, such as the cradle that carries a ship down the slipway during a launch.
