Diesel exhaust fluid
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-001704
A non-toxic solution of urea and deionized water used in selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems to reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions from diesel engines. It is injected into the exhaust stream, where it reacts with NOx to convert it into nitrogen and water. DEF is consumed at a rate of about 2-5% of diesel fuel consumption.
