Catalytic converter

An exhaust emission control device that transforms toxic gases and pollutants in exhaust from an internal combustion engine into less-harmful substances. It uses a catalyst, typically a precious metal like platinum, palladium, or rhodium, coated on a ceramic honeycomb structure. Through chemical reactions, it converts carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and unburned hydrocarbons into carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and water.
