Aromatization
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-006760
A chemical conversion process in petroleum refining that transforms non-aromatic hydrocarbons into aromatic hydrocarbons. This process is a key part of catalytic reforming, where paraffins and naphthenes are passed over a catalyst at high temperature and pressure to produce high-octane components like benzene, toluene, and xylenes. Aromatization increases the octane rating of gasoline and provides chemical feedstocks.
