Cracking

A process in petroleum refining that breaks down large, complex hydrocarbon molecules into smaller, more valuable ones, such as gasoline and diesel. This is achieved through the application of heat and pressure, often with catalysts, in units like fluid catalytic crackers. Thermal cracking and catalytic cracking are common methods.
