Mud cracking

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-003796

A pattern of irregular cracks that forms on the surface of a material as it dries and shrinks. This phenomenon occurs in wet coatings, concrete, or soil when the rate of surface drying exceeds the rate at which moisture can migrate from the interior. The cracks typically propagate in a polygonal or hexagonal network, indicating internal stresses within the drying layer.
