Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000808
An acronym for the aromatic hydrocarbons Benzene, Toluene, and Xylene, which are volatile organic compounds found in crude oil and produced during petroleum refining. These compounds are extracted from reformate streams using solvent extraction or extractive distillation processes because of their high value as chemical feedstocks and gasoline octane boosters. BTX aromatics are foundational components for the production of plastics, synthetic fibers, and industrial solvents.
