Diesel engine

An internal combustion engine that ignites fuel by compressing air to a high temperature, rather than using a spark plug. Fuel is injected into the hot compressed air, where it self-ignites. Diesel engines are known for their high thermal efficiency and torque, commonly used in heavy vehicles, marine vessels, and power generation.
