A physical container or chute where materials, documents, or finished parts are deposited for collection, transfer, or temporary storage in a manufacturing or logistics environment. It facilitates asynchronous hand-offs between different workstations, departments, or shifts without direct person-to-person interaction. Dropboxes are often positioned at the end of a conveyor line or next to a machine cell to accumulate output before it is moved to the next process step.
